About James

James White resides in North Brunswick, NJ and plays the
soprano, alto and tenor saxophones, the clarinet, and the flute.
He has over 30 years of experience as a Jazz, Blues, Gospel
and R&B musician which began in the Newark, NJ public school
system. At the age of 17, he received a young artist recognition
award from Governor Thomas Kean. Some highlights of his
career include playing at Show Time at the Apollo, and
performing with jazz artists Jimmy Scott and Leo Johnson.
James has recorded and performed with various gospel artists
including Alvin Slaughter, Angel Garrett and the Christ Church
Choir. James is a minister of music who directs and performs
regularly at churches throughout the Tri-State area. He has
studied classical clarinet with Phil Russo at the Hartt School
of Music, and studied jazz with the legendary jazz artists
Jackie McLean, Grachon Moncour III and Duke Anderson. He
works with and teaches music to aspiring young musicians in the
Newark area. In addition to performing with the James White
Quartet at festivals and concerts, he also performs with The
Dimensions Band featuring Valerie Adams,Plex
and The Collection of Brothers.
